How to help Haiti

Stop by Maria’s Mexican Tacos from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25 for $2 tacos and $1 sodas. All proceeds from this cash-only fundraiser go to help relief efforts in Haiti. Maria’s Mexican Tacos is located at 13483 Bowman Road in Auburn. Call (530) 823-8540 for more information. The Auburn Community Recycling Center, 350 Sacramento St., is holding a donation drive. Those wanting to help relief efforts in Haiti can donate their recyclables, and the proceeds will go to the American Red Cross. An addition 5 cents per pound will be applied to the California Redemption Value for aluminum cans. Other recyclable materials include glass and plastic bottles, in addition to copper, aluminum, brass and lead. Call (530) 889-2267 for more information. The Kids Closet is asking for donations of clean cloth diapers, diaper pins and diaper covers to send to the Child Hope International orphanage in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Donations may be made at Kids Closet, 948 B Lincoln Way. Kids Closet is open 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Call (530) 888-1809 for information. A spaghetti feed benefiting the Child Hope International orphanage in Port-au-Prince, Haiti will be held 3-7 p.m. Feb. 6 at the Auburn Masonic Hall, 956 ½ Lincoln Way. Suggested donation is $7 for adults, $5 for children and $20 for a family of four. Dinner includes spaghetti, salad and garlic bread. Advance ticket locations include Community First Bank, Tango frozen yogurt and Kids Closet. Tickets will also be available at the door. A benefit for the Child Hope International orphanage in Port-au-Prince, Haiti will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24 at Tsuda’s, 103 Sacramento St., Auburn. The benefit features music by Colossal Dome. Suggested donation is $5, and root beer float proceeds also help the orphanage. Call (530) 823-2233 for information.
