It’s easy to catch the sounds of the season

Do you hear what I hear? No doubt everyone has a favorite holiday tune, and there are plenty of opportunities to hear it live this month in Auburn and the surrounding area. Consider checking out any and all of these holiday concerts: Today Celebrate the CD release of “It’s Christmas Time” with a concert that kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at the State Theatre, 985 Lincoln Way. This Auburn Placer Performing Arts Center benefit features Claytoven Richardson, Erik Chun, Andrea President, Kathie Rollins, Roberta Donnay, Mira Veda, Larry Batiste and others who contributed to the holiday CD. Tuesday The Auburn Symphony, chorus and guest soloists invite you to sing “Hallelujah” at the Messiah Sing-Along, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Placer High School Auditorium. Placer High is located at 275 Orange St. Wednesday The Auburn Concert Band presents “Christmas Carols & Cookies” at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Woodside Village Mobile Home Park, 12155 Luther Road, Auburn. This fun evening of holiday music is free, but donations will be accepted. After the concert the Auburn Concert Band will provide refreshments. See or call (530) 888-1801 for more information. Also on Wednesday is the first of two Colfax High School winter concerts. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday in the school’s performing arts center, 24995 Ben Taylor Road. Dec. 12 Celtic trio Golden Bough brings their Old World cheer to Music & More’s DeWitt Theatre at 7 p.m. Dec. 12. Also planned for that day is “The Joy of Music,” presented by the Sierra Gold Chorus at 2 p.m. at Parkside Church of the Nazarene, 3885 Richardson Drive, Auburn. Pre-sale tickets are $12 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under and $10 for seniors 65 and older. Tickets at the door will be $15 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. December 18 Toot Sweet Brass Co., an Auburn-based quintet of professional and semi-professional brass musicians, presents traditional Christmas carols at 3 p.m. Dec. 18 in the sanctuary at Pioneer United Methodist Church. An audience sing-along carols will be included in the program. Admission is free, and a holiday free-will offering will benefit the Auburn Interfaith Food Closet.
