30 ARD chair # MUG: Gray, Jim Auburn Recreation District Director Jim Gray has been chosen to lead the district board as chairman in 2010. Gray has served on the board since 2000. “The ARD Board remains committed to the prosperity of the community, the neighborhoods and the citizens of the Auburn Area Recreation and Park District,” Gray said in a press release. “Due to the continued tough economic climate, the 2010 year will again be another restrained financial year with restrictions being imposed on Park District budgets. “ARD will prioritize maintaining services to the community while streamlining the implementation of additional programs. ARD will continue to focus on grant funded projects. ARD must stay committed to its decisions, but stay flexible in its approach. Vince Lombardi once quoted, ‘The measure of who we are is what we do with what we have.’” Gray, who is also head coach of the Placer High School freshman football team, was voted chairman by fellow board members during ARD’s monthly meeting earlier this month. Jim Ferris was elected vice chair and Scott Holbrook was elected secretary. In other business during that meeting, staff gave a presentation of an updated five-year Capital Improvement Project List. Projects proposed for fiscal year 2010/2011 include a 3/4-mile asphalt loop trail around Recreation Park, a renovation of the large soccer field at Meadow Vista Park and a renovation of the lifeguard and snack bar facility at Sierra Pool. ARD also recognized Joanna McNutt as Employee of the Month for December. McNutt is the crew leader in charge of building maintenance at ARD. Joanna was also lauded for her volunteer work in the community, including helping with the Black & White Ball and various Rotary projects. The Winter 2010 Activity Guide will find its way into mailboxes around the first of the year. Questions regarding classes can be answered at the ARD Customer Service office (530) 885-8461 or online at
