Junior Hillmen open by taking four of five

By Journal Sports Staff The Placer Junior Hillmen opened the season last weekend by winning four of five games against visiting Bear River at Le Febvre Stadium. The Placer Junior Midgets toppled the Junior Bruins 32-12 as Frankie O’Neal rushed for 110 yards and one touchdown and returned a fumble 45 yards for another TD. Dustin Edward and Ryan Gray each rushed for one touchdown and quarterback Zack Madrigal capped the scoring with a touchdown run in the fourth quarter. Riley Beames and Andrew Peek led a solid defense for Placer. At the Mighty Mites level, Placer edged Bear River 20-12. In the Junior Pee-Wee game, the Junior Hillmen beat the Junior Bruins 20-6. Bear River got the best of Placer in the Pee Wee game, 32-12. In the nightcap, the Placer Midgets beat Bear River 18-6. After a bye for Labor Day weekend, the Junior Hillmen will be back on the field Sept. 12 at Foothill. Look for Junior football reports each Tuesday in the Journal the rest of the season.
