Edwards rushed 11 times for 116 yards and Gray had 11 carries for 60 yards for Placer, which qualified for the playoffs with the victory. The Hillmen (5-2) rallied from a 16-6 deficit in the second quarter and trailed 16-12 at halftime. Edwards’ 20-yard scoring run on Placer’s opening drive of the second half put the Hillmen on top for good, 20-16. John Sweat recovered a Wildcats fumble at the Whitney 45-yard line at the end of the third quarter, setting up the final touchdown. Whitney did not record a first down in the final quarter. Sweat, Devin Ray and Robbie Queen led the defensive effort. Placer also beat the Junior Wildcats in midget action, 34-6, to improve to 4-3. Whitney extended the winless woes for the other three young Hillmen teams, winning 36-0 in both the Mighty Mite and Junior Pee-Wee games and 25-0 in Pee-Wee action. The Junior Hillmen travel to wrap up the regular season against the Bear River Junior Bruins on Saturday.
