The Placer High School girls soccer team is hosting a golf tournament as a fundraiser on Saturday, April 6.

A $50 registration fee includes driving range balls, golf cart, nine holes of play and a BBQ lunch. Tee time is set for 11 a.m. at Black Oak Golf Course.

Non-golfers are also being encouraged to attend the meal ($12).

“Everyone is welcome to show up,” Placer coach Steve Cook said. “They can show up for lunch; half of the proceeds go to the girls soccer team.”

The Lady Hillmen are seeking donations from local community businesses for raffles and prizes to give away for a putting contest, closest-to-the-pin shot and longest drive for both men and women.

“We’re still collecting prizes,” said Joe Bartle, who is organizing the affair and has a daughter, Brittany, on the soccer team. “We’re looking for free golf rounds at Winchester and Auburn Valley, wine from local wineries and a meal at Bootleggers.”

Bartle said any donations are being accepted — even free haircuts.

This is the first time the soccer team has held a golf fundraiser. It was put together at the last minute, and Bartle said wouldn’t be possible without the help of Black Oak General Manager Norm Morrice.

“We’re hoping everything comes together in the next couple of weeks,” Bartle said of the event which he hopes will raise around $1,000 for the Lady Hillmen. “We have flyers out. We’re hoping to get some support from the community.”

Proceeds raised from the event will benefit the Lady Hillmen and help offset the costs of uniforms, equipment, transportation, tournaments and referees.

The last day to register for the golf tournament is March 31. A backup date is set incase of rain.

Monetary donations are also being accepted.
