Lady Hillmen win first PVL 18-hole meet

The Placer High School girls golf team won the first Pioneer Valley League 18-hole meet with ease on Monday.

Hannah Gregg led the Lady Hillmen (468) with a 70 on the par-71 Bartley Cavanaugh course in Sacramento.

Bear River (501) finished second, Lincoln (529) was third and Center (532) trailed the pack.

Other leaders on the day included Placer’s Madi Holm (79), Bear River’s Jessica Pisenti (80), Center’s Paige Barmann (83) and Bear River’s Shelby Lampson (88).

Boys soccer

Placer 2, Foothill 0 — In the Pioneer Valley League opener, the Hillmen improved to 6-3-1 Monday at Railhead Park when they recorded their fourth straight shutout. The Hillmen got second-half goals from Brennan Entz and Gama Gomez, who have combined for 13 goals on the season. Placer backs Adam Norcott, Nikolai Figueroa, Erich Hernandez and Collin Barnum kept the pressure off of goalkeeper Patrick Dellwo. The team voted Norcott “Player of the Game” for the second time this season. The Hillmen play again today at Railhead Park at 3:30 p.m. against Center.

Girls volleyball

Placer at Davis Tournament — The Lady Hillmen were defeated by Bell Vista in the tournament final Saturday.  They went 3-0 in pool play, beating Woodland, Sutter, and Drake all 2-0. Placer then went into the Gold Bracket for playoffs as the fourth seed and beat Rio Americano 2-0 in the quarterfinals and Napa in the semifinals 2-0. The team lost to Bella Vista in the finals 27-25, 25-20. “The girls played amazingly well as a team and it was a great experience for us,” coach Jennifer Wright said.
