Multi-county pursuit follows suspected South Nevada County homicide
AUBURN CA - A Lake of the Pines man was stabbed to death early Thursday and a suspect in the killing was arrested after a pursuit that ranged over three counties. Ryan Roth, 33, was identified as the victim of the knife attack. He was found dead at the scene by emergency personnel, who had answered a 911 call about the stabbing at 12:30 a.m. Brandon Riddle-Terrel, 24, of Petaluma, was arrested on suspicion of homicide. The Nevada County Sheriff's Office reported that the stabbing took place in the 11000-block of Lake Shore North - a street in the gated Lake of the Pines community, about 10 miles north of Auburn. A sheriff's report stated that deputies were initially called to a disturbance at the South Nevada County residence. Nevada County Sheriff's deputies started a search for an assailant that turned into a lengthy chase after the male suspect fled the scene in a car. The suspect vehicle was located in Placer County and then followed through Sacramento County until it was stopped in Elk Grove, at Highway 99 near Calvine Road. Slowed to running on its rims after passing over a spike strip in Placer County, the fleeing vehicle continued to move, with a parade of patrol cars from various jurisdictions eventually traveling behind it. The suspect reportedly fled the vehicle after it stopped but was taken into custody when a sheriff's patrol dog ran him down, biting him several times. Roth's last known address was at a residence in another part of Lake of the Pines, a sheriff's spokesman said.
