Lake of the Pines man set for preliminary hearing

A Lake of the Pines man charged with allegedly taking $650,000 from 50 victims is moving toward a possible trial. William Lawson Campbell, who was 64 when he was arrested in October, is facing 29 felony counts for allegedly conning victims with several investment scams. Many of the alleged victims were his Lake of the Pines neighbors. Campbell is scheduled to begin a preliminary hearing at 9 a.m. June 14 at Nevada County Superior Court at 201 Church St. in Nevada City. Campbell’s Lake of the Pines home is scheduled to be auctioned at the main entrance of the Church Street courthouse at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.
