AUBURN CA - A woman killed in a two-vehicle crash Friday morning on Highway 49 north of Auburn has been identified. The Placer County Coroner’s Office released the name Monday after contacting next of kin over the weekend. Killed was Cynthia Elizabeth Griffis, 63, of Lake of the Pines. Griffis died after the Subaru Outback she was driving crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a truck south of Lonestar Road. The crash took place at about 8:15 a.m. The driver of the truck – Anthony Savelly, 59, of Grass Valley – was hospitalized with chest injuries. California Highway Patrol Officer Dave Montijo said that an investigation into the cause of the accident was continuing but that alcohol had been ruled out as a factor. Witnesses reported to investigators that they saw the car fishtailing in the northbound lane before moving into the oncoming, southbound traffic lane, he said. The accident took place about a quarter of a mile south of the Lonestar Road-Highway 49 intersection, where several collisions have taken place in recent years.
