Lane sentencing scheduled for Wednesday

An Auburn man who pleaded no contest to assault with a deadly weapon is scheduled for sentencing Wednesday morning. Michael Lane is set to appear in Placer County Superior Court to learn the outcome of his Nov. 6 no contest plea to assault with a deadly weapon and admitting to an allegation of causing great bodily harm. Last year, Lane was charged with attempted murder for allegedly stabbing 21-year-old Britton Reed multiple times early in the morning of March 17, 2008. The altercation took place in a parking lot next to Bob and Betty’s 160 Club on Cleveland Street in Auburn. Lane will face a maximum prison term of seven years in state prison. Lane remains in custody at Placer County Jail. He will appear in Placer County Superior court at 8:30 a.m. March 4 in Dept. 32 at the Bill Santucci Justice Center in Roseville. -Jenifer Gee
