Learn from Obama speech

Re: “Some parents decry speech ‘censorship,’” Journal, Sept. 9. The article states that, “Though he (Fred Adam, Placer Hills School District Superintendent) was aware of the speech’s early release, Adam said he spent the holiday with his family, and chose to wait to read it.” In other words, he chose not to do his homework on the weekend, to wait until a work day (when it would be too late for many parents to react to his decision). No wonder our schools and students are in academic trouble if this is the example and leadership being shown by a senior school administrator. Maybe Adam is the one who most needs Obama’s message to students. He might learn something about hard work and dedication beyond just meeting the minimum requirements. Ralph H. Petri, Auburn
