Learn to ski Saturday at Auburn Ski Club
By: Sara Seyydin Journal Staff Writer
Learn to cross country ski Saturday for just $5 at the Auburn Ski Club’s Open House Afternoon. The event is scheduled for 1:30-4:30 p.m. and includes a ski rental, afternoon trail pass and lesson in cross country skiing. Snow-sport enthusiasts will also have the opportunity to tour the ski club’s facilities and learn about the ski and snowboard programs it offers. Founded in 1928, the Auburn Ski Club is one of the oldest ski clubs in the nation. It features its own cross country trail system and a family-based approach to skiing. “You can be with your kids as they participate instead of just on the sidelines,” said Auburn Ski Club executive director Bill Clark, “It is one of the few sports where you can with your family in the snow, doing something together.” Programs are offered in a variety of disciplines including Nordic, alpine, cross-country and snowboard. The ski club even boasts a biathlon team that dates back to World War II. Programs range from beginner all the way to national competitions. Becoming a member gains families access to the facilities, programs and professional instructors. Annual dues are $40 per year for the first family member and $20 for each additional. After that prices vary depending on the program. The Auburn Ski Club is located at the west end of the Boreal’s Parking Lot. Call ahead to reserve a spot, (530) 426-3313.
