Let’s get past whining stage

When Adam got caught chomping the apple he blamed Eve for beguiling him, then doubled down and blamed God for sending him the woman in the first place. Eve blamed the snake. From that day to this no one has been responsible for anything. Today Obama blames the economy on the Japanese earthquake and tsunami, the Arab spring and George Bush. The Republicans blame the Democrats and the Democrats blame the tea party. People sit around coffee houses pointing fingers of blame in every direction known to man and a few that haven’t been discovered yet. Our government has grown so obscenely obese that it must collapse under its own weight. What used to be illegal is now undocumented. Pouring trillions of dollars down a rat hole is called job creation. Our freedoms are eroding day by day. Who is responsible? It’s us. We have allowed it to happen. Even those who are aware of what is happening do nothing but sit and point and blame. It saddens me to watch our country devolve into a nation of hand-wringing, finger-pointing whiners. “I can’t do anything about it,” they snivel. They can’t because they won’t. Write your elected officials — local, state and federal — and remind them that they work for you, not the other way around, and mail it in. Don’t e-mail, fax or call. They pay more attention and the post office could use the revenue. An avalanche is nothing more than a whole lot of snowflakes. JOHN DOWNS, Newcastle
