Let Del Oro basketball phenom play

Thank you, California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Sac-Joaquin section. First you mess with Placer High foster student Dalton Dyer, requiring the courts to intervene in the name of justice, and now you ruin the senior year of Del Oro French student/basketball player Remi Barry (Journal, Jan. 21). What a travesty! Aren’t these CIF administrators supposed to serve student-athletes and ensure fairness? An exchange student moves here in August and they waste most of his senior season deciding whether he can play or not? It doesn’t add up. Like the Dyer incident (recall, the initial protest and ensuing forfeit ruling reportedly was initiated by a rival school), the power-wielders give off a bad smell here. I wonder, if Barry weren’t an elite 6-foot-7 college prospect, would he have been playing all along with no controversy? Let the kid play, immediately, so that all student-athletes in the area can benefit from a high-caliber competitor who has made incredible sacrifices to follow the rules and get the chance that he deserves.
