Lieu bill equals abuse of power

Sen. Ted Lieu, D-Torrance, has SB1172 on the governor’s desk, waiting for his signature. The bill bans licensed therapists from helping children with unwanted same-sex attractions, or confusion, even if specifically asked for and supported by their parents. Says the senator, “We don’t want to let parents harm their children.” You harm a troubled child in seeking professional help? Nonsense. What’s disturbing in this bill is abuse of power — subverting the proper role of a parent. Mr. Lieu becomes the parent. SB1172 is not yet law. It is, however, a sign of the times which produce two types of lawmakers: one protects our freedoms, rights and traditional values during the course of business. The priority of the other is social engineering — enacting his or her agenda of the day. Regardless, some times, of how it’s done. BILL HARDER SR., Auburn
