Lincoln no match for Placer

Shelby Madigan flirted with a triple-double Wednesday night, but settled for 18 points, eight rebounds and eight steals as the Placer High girls basketball team pounded Lincoln 55-34. The Lady Hillmen jumped out to a 29-19 lead by halftime and coasted in the second half at Earl Crabbe Gym. Placer improved to 4-0 in the Pioneer Valley League, setting up a first-place showdown with El Dorado Friday at home. Kayla Reeves had a solid game with 12 points, four steals and four rebounds while Bailey Bill chipped in with six points. In junior varsity play, Placer beat Lincoln 46-40 as Karly Frew and Nikki Johnston led the way with eight points apiece. Hailey Godman added eight points and Holly Kenoyer had nine steals as Placer improved to 2-2 in the PVL. Bear River 74, Mesa Verde 21 at Citrus Heights — Sophomore Kelsey Uno drained three 3-pointers and finished with a career-high 17 points to pace the Bruins in a rout. Riley Pearson added 13 points while Whitney Smith and Jocelyn Fry scored 10 apiece for Bear River (12-6 overall, 3-1 PVL). Bear River’s junior varsity squad manhandled Mesa Verde 70-17. The Bruins will host Whitney on Friday for winter homecoming. Del Oro 60, Nevada Union 26 at Loomis — The Golden Eagles used a balanced offense to drop the Miners at home. Katie Pulliam scored a game-high 11 points, Courtney Nolen scored 10 and Madeline Campbell had eight for Del Oro. The Eagles (16-1 overall, 4-0 Sierra Foothill League) will face Granite Bay Friday in a battle of undefeated SFL squads. Golden Sierra 53, Marysville 40 at Garden Valley — The Grizzlies improved to 4-0 in the Golden Empire League as senior Shannon Cummings erupted for a career-high 27 points. Cummings hit four 3-pointers as the Grizzlies built an early lead and held on. Golden Sierra’s junior varsity also improved to 4-0 in the GEL with a victory over Marysville.
