Litchfield taking his shot at trials

Bear River High graduate Paul Litchfield was added Wednesday to the the field of athletes in the men’s pole vault at the USA Track and Field Olympic Trials this weekend in Eugene, Ore. Litchfield, who currently serves as an assistant track and field coach at Idaho State University, cleared the “B” qualifying standard of 5.5 meters earlier this spring. He will be one of at least 27 vaulters competing for three spots on the U.S. Olympic team. Qualifying for the men’s pole vault begins today at 5:50 p.m. The finals are Sunday at 2:40 p.m. Fellow Auburn native and Idaho State alum Stacy Dragila will also compete at the trials. The 2000 Olympic gold medallist will begin her quest for a spot on the U.S. team on July 3 with the finals scheduled for July 6. Newcastle native Becky Holliday will also compete in the women’s pole vault.
