A little ‘fore’ of July fun

If you’re a golfer, I hope you get a bang out of this cryptogram created with golf terms around the phrase Independence Day, July 4 in order to celebrate our national birthday this week. There are a few tips, some opinions and a modest attempt at humor. I love this game! Never give up. You never know, your next shot might just drop into the hole. Driver. Definitely the longest club in the bag. Etiquette is an important part of respecting the game of golf. Press! If you’re a betting person you’ll understand. Execute your pre-shot routine before every shot. Noonan. Remember this character from “Caddyshack”? Don’t forget to repair your ball marks and fix your divots. Expect some shots to not finish where you think they should. Nine holes on the front or on the back, when you don’t have time for a full18. Chipping is easier if you set up with the ball off your back foot. Everyone can enjoy some aspect of golf, from playing to watching. It’s exciting! Dad introduced me to this great game. Appreciate your freedoms and those who sacrificed to give them to us. Yell, “Fore!” if you it an errant shot toward other players. Junior golf programs are great summer activities for kids. Understand the rules of golf. They are there to help, not to hurt. Lakes are pretty to look at, but they eat golf balls, so aim away from them. You’ll hit the ball further and straighter with a balanced grip on the club. 4 putts. You want to avoid these! I hope you’ve enjoyed this little holiday-o-gram. Have a safe Independence Day. Hopefully you’ll ignite some golf score fireworks with your holiday celebration! Junior camps Two-day junior camps are coming up at The Ridge Golf Club from 9 a.m.-noon July 15-16 and August 5-6. The camps are for golfers ages 8 to 17. No clubs or experience are needed. Fundamentals of the swing, short game and putting will be covered. There will be games and skills contests to enrich attendee’s experience. Cost per camp is $50 for Ridge Junior Club members, $60 for non-members.
