The Soroptimist International of Auburn club recently got together and provided a wonderful dinner for the homeless. Held at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church on High St. in Auburn, spearheaded by member, Kristi MacIntosh, nine ladies worked to serve barbecued chicken, roasted new potatoes, green salad and garden fresh tomatoes, rolls and another member, Ann Bryant’s special fresh fruit compote … plus giant cupcakes for dessert. A total of 54 homeless guests were bused in by The Gathering Inn. After being served the wonderful meal, the guests were allowed to settle down into sleeping bags on the floor for a comfortable nights sleep, their stomachs nice and full. Soroptimist International is a worldwide organization of volunteers whose mission is to help the lives of women and children. The local Auburn club welcomes prospective members to view Web site www.soroptimist.org or call Merrill Kagan-Weston for local membership information at (530) 268-9717.
