Local youth race to the top

Placer Foothills Mountain Bike Club racers garnered several podium spots during the TBF MTB Racing Series Kickstart last week.

Colfax High School freshman Nathan Barton, racing on a borrowed a bike, completed 12 miles in 59:42 earning him third place in the High School Sport division.

While in the Junior (14 & under) division, Porter Mickel, a seventh-grader at Bowman Charter School, raced six miles in 41:01, earning him first place.  Colten Sweeney, an eighth-grader at EV Cain Charter School, took third with a finish time of 43:42.

The TBF Racing Series (www.tbfracing.com) is organized by Total Body Fitness, and has various divisions from Novice to Expert. Each lap is six miles of challenging, scenic, single track trails, up and down the foothills surrounding Folsom Lake.

The Placer Foothills MTB Club (www.placerfoothillsmtb.com), and their sponsor Auburn Bike Works (www.AuburnBikeWorks.com), continue to train and recruit middle school and high school riders. Whether for fitness or competition, Placer Foothills MTB Club provides many opportunities for local youth to get out on their bikes to enjoy the foothills.
