Longtime coach Geno Linarez dies of cancer

Longtime Placer High coach and Auburn sports figure Geno Linarez died Saturday night after a seven-month battle with liver cancer. Linarez coached the Lady Hillmen freshman basketball team most recently. He had coached softball, football and volleyball at the school and was a longtime Auburn Little League and Auburn Recreation District coach, impacting the lives of hundreds of youth athletes in the area. Linarez is survived by his wife Tammy and his children Geno, Angela, Rachel and Toney, daughter-in-law Jenny and grandchildren Darien and Anthony. Services are pending and a memorial fund will be set up in Linarez’s name this week.
