A 16-year-old Maidu High School student involved in a solo-vehicle collision Nov.21 remained in critical condition Wednesday. The teen was life-flighted to Mercy San Juan Medical Center the evening of Nov. 21 and remained in their hospital’s trauma intensive care unit as of Wednesday afternoon, according to spokesman Bryan Gardner. The teen was reportedly the back-seat passenger in a 1998 Toyota Corolla that ran off Mt. Vernon Road in Auburn and hit a tree at about 8:30 p.m. Nov. 21. The driver, a 17-year-old Chana High School student, may face felony charges of driving under the influence of alcohol with no license and possession of open containers. The accident is still under investigation and has yet to be formally submitted to the Placer County District Attorney’s Office, according to spokesman Scott Owens. Twenty-nine-year-old Heather Richey will not face charges. Richey was reportedly in the right front passenger seat at the time of the accident. -Jenifer Gee
