Man arrested in Auburn receives 3 years for role in bank robbery
An Elk Grove man who originally confessed to Auburn Journal staff about his role in a bank robbery and was arrested later that day by the Auburn Police Department and FBI has been sentenced to three years in prison.
Kevin Herbert, 42, admitted Thursday in Sacramento Superior Court that he was the driver in a Sacramento County bank robbery and further admitted to a fire-arms charge – resulting in a three-year stipulated prison sentence, said Brian Morgan, deputy district attorney for Sacramento County.
A second bank-robbery charge was dismissed, Morgan said.
Herbert initially admitted to his part in crime when he visited the Journal on July 11 and asked to speak with staff to tell his story. The Journal contacted Auburn police, who then detained him.
The suspect he drove for during the robbery is facing charges in another county, and once that is completed he will be brought to face charges in Sacramento County, Morgan said.
