Mandarin Festival recipe winner hails from Auburn

The competition was fierce at this year’s Mountain Mandarin Festival Recipe Contest, but after two hours of eating, the judges declared Amber Harmon of Auburn the Grand Prize winner with her submission of shrimp tacos with spicy mandarin chutney. The recipe is still top-secret for now, but will be featured in next year's Mountain Mandarin Festival Cookbook. Taking first place in the three categories were Nancy Collins, Auburn, main dish of mandarin garlic ginger steak; Jeremy Whetstone, Weimar, side dish of spicy barbecue mandarin habanero chicken wings; and Claire Dunlap, Auburn, dessert of chocolate mandarin hazelnut cake.
