Sophomore Ryan Mason tossed a one-hitter and the Placer High baseball team scratched out a run in the bottom of the seventh to edge Colfax 2-1 Friday night at James Field.
Mason struckt out 10 and walked just one in seven innings of work, leading the Hillmen to their first Pioneer Valley League win.
Sophomore Michael Reale had a solid day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a double. Matt Ryan and Evan Staton had the only other hits for Placer (1-1 PVL, 6-3 overall). The Hillmen scored the winning run on an error by the Falcons (0-4, 4-8).
Del Oro 11, Oakmont 4 at Roseville — Cooper Johnson scattered three hits and four walks in seven innings of work to lead the Golden Eagles to a big Sierra Foothill League win.
Del Oro (3-3 SFL, 6-4 overall) took advantage of eight walks and had 10 hits. Cope Perez was 2-for-2 with an RBI, Ryan Xepoleus had a double and scored two runs and Freddie Cargile was 2-for-4 with two steals and two runs scored.
Foresthill 10, Faith Christian 5 at Foresthill — The Wildfires jumped out to a big lead, then held off the visitors for a nonleague win Friday.
Braeden Eldridge was 3-for-3 at the plate while Ian Sykes was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Mike Mangone was 2-for-3 with a double. Travis Green Smacked a triple and Jace Pack added a double for the Wildfires (3-1).
Dave Whitsett pitched four strong innings in relief of Jon McCann, who got the win.
