You never need much of a reason to throw a party, but Ophir School has a few good ones. Students, staff and parents present and past are welcome to the school’s May Day Dinner, being held Thursday evening on campus and hosted by the Ophir Elementary School Parent Teacher Club. “We’re just going to get everybody together for a fun, relaxing evening,” said Amy Goodrich, Ophir parent and yard duty. The free taco dinner features live music and an opportunity to get some quality time with three longtime district employees before they retire at the end of the school year. Retiring are teachers Elaine Eason and Diana Fischer, who have been with the school since 1973, and Sandra Wise, business manager. “It’s basically a welcoming environment to say ‘happy retirement’ and to get the community and the student body together,” Goodrich said. Fischer looks forward to Thursday’s May Day Dinner. “I feel very honored that they would do that and I’m hoping to see some people who I haven’t seen in a long time,” she said. Eason said she’s appreciated getting to know students and families and watching them mature over the years. “I’ve had the rare experience of teaching children’s children,” she said. Eason, like Fischer, looks forward to Thursday’s dinner. “I’m very honored,” she said. “Going for this long of a time at the same school is, itself, a rare opportunity, and having the community thank you, that’s an honor. I’m looking forward to the sentimental journey.” The Journal’s Loryll Nicolaisen can be reached at lorylln@goldcountrymedia. com, or comment online at -------- Ophir Elementary School Parent Teacher Club hosts its May Day Dinner from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday for the whole school and community to bring families together for a fun and relaxing night.
