McAnally Racing has five teams in NASCAR Showdown
Bill McAnally Racing of Antelope will have five teams in the lineup for the eighth annual NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown on Friday and Saturday in Irwindale.
Leading the way is NASCAR K&N Pro Series West champion Eric Holmes. Also driving for McAnally Racing are 2009 Pro Series West Rookie of the Year Paulie Harraka, two-time NASCAR Mexico Series champion German Quiroga, 2010 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series champion D.J. Kennington and three-time Pro Series West Most Popular Driver Moses Smith.
The All-Star Showdown matches the top racers in North America in a 225-lap main event. It will be televised live at 7 p.m. Saturday on the SPEED Channel.
Holmes drove to five victories last season in winning his third Pro Series West points championship. He won the All-Star Showdown’s Elite Division race in 2004 while competing on the former NASCAR Southwest Tour.
Quiroga has 14 wins in 80 starts in the Mexico Series. Kennington has more than 25 starts in the Nationwide Series. Smith is making his fourth start in the showdown and Harraka his second. Harraka, a junior at Duke University, won the Pro Series West opener last year at All American Speedway in Roseville.
McAnally Racing won the inaugural showdown in 2003.
Rugby kickoff tournament is this weekend
Kickoff Tournament XXVII, featuring 97 rugby sides, is scheduled for Friday through Sunday at Granite Regional Park in Sacramento.
Sides from the Bay Area will join area teams, including Granite Bay and the Sierra Foothills Rugby Club, for 142 total matches from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Three matches are scheduled Friday night. Varsity and JV matches are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday with under-14 and under-12 matches Sunday.

Oakmont baseball clinic
Oakmont High School will hold a baseball skills clinic for boys and girls ages 6-13 from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 5 at the varsity field.
The cost is $30 (pre-registration is $27 if postmarked by Feb. 2), and proceeds will benefit the Oakmont baseball program. The fee includes a camp shirt. Oakmont players and coaches will handle the instruction.

Free lacrosse clinic for girls
Granite Bay Youth Lacrosse will hold a “Try It Out” session for girls in fifth through eighth grades from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, at Granite Bay High School. Beginners are welcome, and equipment will be provided.
