McClintock appointed water and power subcommittee chairman

-A +A
U.S. Rep. Tom McClintock, R-Roseville, is the new chairman of the water and power subcommittee of the House Natural Resources Committee. McClintock has been ranking member of the subcommittee and with the shift to a Republican majority in Congress, he was appointed to the chairmanship by incoming House Natural Resources Committee Chairman Doc Hastings. McClintock advocates a return to policies of “abundance,” to utilize the nation’s natural resources. Hastings, in announcing the appointment, said that the congressman has also supported protecting jobs “by factoring people back into the water-supply equation.” McClintock said he will be using the chairmanship to continue the effort to build an Auburn dam but he considers that a long-term goal. “The water and power subcommittee can shape policy that is of critical importance to the people of the 4th congressional district,” McClintock said. “By returning to time-tested priorities of water storage, flood protection and hydroelectric generation, we can strengthen our economy, create conditions for permanent and productive jobs and protect the environment.” – Gus Thomson
