McClintock no vote-counter

An Auburn Journal article of Aug. 7, (“Placer Republicans leery of Washington budget moves”) quotes a local city councilman who alleges that Congressman (Tom) McClintock “was counting votes in order to make his stand” against the recently passed debt limit bill. Congressman McClintock does not “count votes.” He announced his opposition to both versions of the bill in advance of the votes and was explicit in his reason: that neither version reduced spending sufficiently to protect the nation’s Triple-A credit rating. Sadly, events have proven him right. Bill George, press secretary for Tom McClintock
