Tommy McKenzie carried the biggest piece of the scoring load, throwing in seven goals as the Del Oro high boys varsity water polo team shut down Bear River 15-5 Tuesday. McKenzie was dominating on the counterattack, and produced five steals and a number of breakaway goals for the Golden Eagles. Josh McCormick added three goals and ripped off four steals, and Alex Obert scored twice. Ben Baker, Sam Baker and Collin Johnston all scored once each, and Sam Baker led the way on the defensive end with eight steals. The young Bear River squad, led by Garrat Johnson’s four tallies, has a bright future with few seniors on its roster. Del Oro is at Woodcreek at 5:45 p.m. Thursday and Bear River hosts Whitney. In other SFL boys varsity water polo action, Rocklin beat Nevada Union 14-8, Roseville was a 10-5 winner over Whitney and Granite Bay took care of Woodcreek by a 15-7 count.
