Auburn Police arrested a Meadow Vista resident for felony vandalism Monday. Randolph James Rutledge, 32, was booked into Placer County Jail after allegedly smashing two Auburn residents’ car windows in the 1400 block of Ridgeview Circle, according to Sgt. Victor Pecoraro. Rutledge allegedly used a large metal tube to smash the windows, Pecoraro said. Rutledge knew the owners of the two cars and contacted them before the vandalism took place, said Auburn Detective Scott Alford. “(There was) no violence or anything like that,” Alford said Tuesday. “He had made contact with them just before the vandalism.” Alford declined to release the details of the conversation. Police arrived at the residence at 5 a.m. Monday, and Rutledge had already left, Pecoraro said. One of the victims later claimed Rutledge was following them in his vehicle between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m., Pecoraro said. An officer arrested Rutledge while he was trying to make contact with the victim, Alford said. Alford said there is no previous criminal history between Rutledge and the victims. Rutledge was arrested for felony vandalism, because the amount of the damage exceeded $400, Alford said. On Tuesday Rutledge was released from jail on a $10,000 bail. ~Bridget Jones
