Men arrested for allegedly stealing gold from Foresthill-area mine
One man has been arrested for allegedly claim jumping at a gold mine near Foresthill, and his brother was arrested on similar charges.
On Saturday night, Placer County Sheriff's Office detectives took Timothy Gene Figel, 52, of Newcastle, into custody while he was trespassing at the undisclosed mine, according to a press release issued by the Placer County Sheriff's Office Wednesday afternoon.
After Figel was arrested on Saturday, his brother, Thomas Lynn Figel, 49, of Newcastle was taken into custody on Tuesday on charges of theft or attempted theft of gold.
The Placer County Sheriff's Office has been called to the mine for theft reports since the late 1990s, where thieves are processing the tailings to extract gold, according to the release. Property that belongs to the mine's owner has also been stolen.
Timothy Figel was arrested on charges of burglary and theft or attempted theft of gold. As of Wednesday both men are in custody at Placer County Jail with Timothy Figel's bail set at $105,000 and Thomas Figel's bail is set at $10,000.
