Miners’ rescue effort superb

I totally agree with the letters by Carol Wallgren and Elly Derr (Reader Input, Oct. 19). Kudos to everyone involved in the rescue of the miners in Chile. Working most of my life as a miner and retiring as a mine safety and health inspector made this a touching thing to watch on TV. I think the Chilean president did the right thing. He called for help and when the experts arrived he let them do all the planning and rescue work and he just stood by and watched. That made him lots of points. I have great admiration for all involved in the planning and rescue — a fantastic job. George Costanich, Auburn
