These little girls have big talents.

Local gymnasts at a compulsory level will be competing in the Miyagi Gymnastics Academy’s annual Gold Country Classic Meet on Saturday, Sept. 29.

The invitational meet will feature ten gyms from Northern California and Nevada, and the Auburn community is invited to watch.

Miyagi’s compulsory team began its meet season recently with its first competition in Concord.  The two Level-6 gymnasts on the team, Holly Hansen and Hannah Strasser, both qualified at once for the state championship competition, with scores of 8.8 and 8.7 on floor.

At Level 4, Lauryn Robinson received four medals, with a vault score of 9.2, a personal best for her.

The next meet of the season for the team will be the upcoming meet at Miyagi’s home gym. It will be presented in three sessions, starting at 8 a.m. for Level 5, 11 a.m. for Level 4, and 3 p.m. for Level 6.

Noboru Miyagi, the founder and head coach of Miyagi Gymnastics Academy, was a national elite gymnast himself. He was an All-American in the 1970s.  His first two daughters also rose to the national level in later years.

Now, his third daughter, Erika, is developing her talents along with her teammates.  Last year, Erika was the Level-4 state champion at Vault. This year, the 7-year-old, is starting Level 5.

Miyagi Gymnastics Academy is located at 3116 Olympic Way in Auburn. For more information, call 888-6569.
