A Sacramento man was killed Sunday morning after he and the motorcycle he was riding skidded off Mosquito Ridge Road, approximately three miles east of Ralston Ridge Road.

At 9:30 a.m. the motorcyclist, identified as 42-year-old Michael D. Cook, was riding his grey, 2007 Suzuki GSX-R on northbound Mosquito Ridge Road at a high rate of speed, according to a press release issued by the California Highway Patrol Monday afternoon. For reasons still under investigation, Cook lost control of his motorcycle, causing him and the motorcycle to skid off the roadway and travel down the embankment.

Cook was located down the embankment by Foresthill Fire emergency personnel and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
