Motorcyclist in head-on collision in fair condition
A motorcyclist involved in a head-on collision on Highway 49 Monday evening is listed in fair condition after he was flown to an area hospital following the crash, according to California Highway Patrol officials.
Nolan Gail, 23, of Rocklin, was riding his motorcycle north on Highway 49 from Auburn to Grass Valley in the fast lane at 4:25 p.m. Monday, according to David Martinez, spokesperson for the CHP.
At the same time, Jose Salamanca, Jr., 39, of Marysville, made a left turn in a 2007 Chevrolet Colorado truck off of Florence Lane onto Highway 49 in front of Gail. Martinez said Gail swerved to try to miss the truck, but hit it head-on.
Traffic on the southbound side of Highway 49 was blocked for 10 minutes when Calstar landed and it took an hour to clean up the scene. Martinez said traffic was filtered on the shoulder of southbound Highway 49 during clean up efforts.
Gail was listed in fair condition Tuesday evening, according to Robin Montgomery, spokesperson for Sutter Roseville.
Martinez said the accident is still under investigation and that no charges have been filed. The CHP reported Monday night that one victim suffered major head trauma.
