A motorcyclist was killed when his bike veered off Foresthill Road and crashed Sunday afternoon. The accident happened about 3:30 p.m. near Porto Fino Road. “He just for unknown reason ran off the road,” said Dave Montijo, California Highway Patrol public information officer for the Auburn area. “We don’t know what speed he was traveling.” The victim, who was wearing a helmet, was riding westbound on a red work bike, alongside a companion motorcyclist. He was ejected from the motorcycle and declared dead at the scene, Montijo said. The 30-year-old Granite Bay resident’s name was not provided pending notification of next of kin. The companion, Elias Cox, 38, of Fair Oaks, was arrested for suspected DUI, Montijo said. Cox was not injured. There’s a slight curve in the road near the site of the crash, but investigation has not determined if that was a factor, according to Montijo. The Cal Fire Grass Valley unit and Placer County Sheriff’s Department also responded to the scene. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
