The passing of Gary Howe is a great loss to the musical community in Auburn (“Howe generated thunderous foundation for Auburn Symphony,” Journal, Aug. 30). Mr. Howe was an essential part of the Auburn Symphony over the years and an expert classical percussionist. He not only performed with the Auburn Symphony but was also active in other aspects of the musical community. When the Auburn Youth Symphony was forming, he helped in the selection and purchase of the tympani to be used by the youthful orchestra, and then donated his time to help train the young percussionist. He was always quiet, thoughtful of others, and extremely talented. We will all miss Gary and what he represents to our community of people. Michael Coder, Auburn
