The new department store opening in the former Gottschalks location will continue to accept applications next week, the company’s president said. David McCaulou, president of McCaulou’s Inc., said from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday or Saturday those interested in applying for positions in the store can visit the new Auburn location on Elm Avenue to apply. “We’re over there full-time now,” McCaulou said. “The McCaulou’s staff that is putting the store together is there full-time. We are now taking applications for permanent full-time, part-time. We probably have about 40 people looking here already from Auburn.” McCaulou said the hiring team is contacting applicants for interviews as well, and is hiring for general sales staff in the store. McCaulou said the company is looking for some work experience. “(We want) five years of full-time experience in any field, it doesn’t really matter to us,” he said. “It’s the individual and what we think they can do for us. I guess experience is almost always a benefit but not always.” The company is not advertising an opening date yet, McCaulou said, but city officials have said they expect the store to open in July. McCaulou said if potential applicants visit the store there is a sign directing where to enter the back of the building, where a host will be waiting to help them apply. Auburn resident Charlotte Patton said she has already sent in her resume to the company through e-mail and fax, but may visit the store to apply as well. “I think it’s a good idea (that they are accepting applications in Auburn), and I do like the idea of McCaulou’s being here,” Patton said. “I have been in sales for years and so that was one of the reasons why I wanted to apply, because I love working with the public and I just like to be out there. I’m really pleased they are going to be in Auburn since Gottschalks is gone and that was one of my favorite stores there.” Patton said she hopes the store is successful in the Auburn Town Center location. “I hope everything goes well with them, whether I’m employed or not,” she said. “It will just be nice to have the store there.” Reach Bridget Jones at bridgetj@goldcountrymedia.com
