Assistance League of Greater Placer recently welcomed 11 new members at an installation luncheon. These ladies join over 200 members living in local Placer County communities who use their talents and experiences through hands-on volunteer service. The many benefits to being a member of Assistance League of Greater Placer includes participating in chapter programs that clothe school children, performing educational puppet shows in classrooms, holding hands with the elderly, providing job appropriate clothing for those re-entering the work force, and donating teddy bears to hospital emergency rooms and the California Highway Patrol to offer comfort to traumatized children. Some $143,000 raised last year was returned to the local communities in Placer County through philanthropic programs. Assistance League is a national nonprofit organization that puts caring and commitment into action through community-based philanthropic programs. Last year local volunteer members contributed over 33,000 service hours and touched the lives of more than 8,800 people in Placer County communities. Assistance League Thrift Shop, located in Fiddler Green Plaza, 1263 Grass Valley Highway, in Auburn is the primary fundraiser and volunteer members are required to work monthly shifts.
