She?s a hair stylist and he owns a fire and water damage restoration company. Now, longtime foothill residents Brett and Tiffany Lawton have launched a clothing store ? Rakish n Luxy ? in Old Town Auburn. ?I?ve always been very into clothing and fashion and just interested in the whole fashion world,? Tiffany Lawton said. ?The opportunity arose and we decided to take it.? The retail endeavor has been in the planning for a while. ?We found this great location and found someone to manage it,? she said. ?So everything came into place. We wanted a good location that was easily accessible to everyone ? if they were coming down from Truckee or coming up from Sacramento or Roseville.? The store carries items for women and men, ranging in style from trendy to classic. ?We have everything from casual shorts to cocktail dresses,? she said. ?For guys, we have suit separates, ties and bow ties to more casual stuff.? The Lawtons visit trade shows to shop for the inventory. ?We have certain brands we knew we wanted to carry in the store,? Lawton said. ?We purchase what we like and what we think will sell.? Manager Skye Toro, a close personal friend of the Lawtons, has a flair for fashion, too. ?She has a ton of retail experience and is a personal stylist,? Tiffany Lawton said. The store opened May 7 and response has been very positive, according to Toro. ?We try to do something you can?t find (locally) so you don?t have to drive down the hill to the mall and you save gas,? she said. The Lawtons have also focused on keeping the price point low, ?There?s something in here that anyone can afford,? Lawton said. ?We have $80 dresses and $14 dresses. We have a variety of styles. I think we could dress anybody. No matter what their style is, they can find something here.? Auburn resident Sharon Andrade was in the store on a recent weekday. ?I brought in my granddaughter to shop for her birthday,? Andrade said. ?(This type of store) is really needed in Auburn for youth ? for the young shoppers to have some choices.? A grand opening is in the works for July 13, with music, food, drinks, giveaways and raffle prizes. For Tiffany Lawton, it?s an opportunity to make the most of her love of fashion. ?It just has always been a passion,? she said. ? ? Being in Old Town, we get to meet so many people. So many people come through here on weekends. It?s just a great location.? ----------- Rakish n Luxy Where: 321 Commercial St., Old Town Auburn Phone (530) 718-2108 Hours: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday Grand opening: Friday, July 13 Website in process www.rakisluxy.com
