AUBURN CA - Placer County sheriff’s investigators are continuing to follow up on leads in a probe into the death of a baby, whose body was found June 23 inside a trash bag at the side of a Newcastle road. Detectives are releasing little in the way of details on the identification of the body, which was found by a woman out walking in an undeveloped subdivision off Newcastle Road. Lt. Mark Reed said Tuesday that the investigation is following up on leads it has received but that no new information is being released at this time. The actual time the baby had been dead could not be determined during an autopsy because of its condition, Reed said. The Sheriff’s Office is describing the body as that of an infant, and “near-term,” which means it was born before its birth due date but was not considered premature. The area the body was found in is called Green Hill Estates. Anyone with information can provide it while staying anonymous and still be eligible for a cash reward up to $1,000. They can call Placer County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-923-8191. All calls are confidential.
