A Newcastle man is behind bars after allegedly hitting two cars and leading police on a brief pursuit on Auburn Folsom Road Tuesday. Auburn police officers arrested Jerry Vincent Whisler, 63, who was allegedly drunk and swerving into oncoming traffic on the road, according to Detective Scott Alford. Alford said officers arrived after Whisler allegedly hit two motorists and drove through a metal gate in a residential neighborhood. Whisler allegedly would not stop for officers and led them on a brief pursuit, Alford said. Officers found Whisler to have a blood alcohol level more than three times that of the legal limit, Alford said. No one was injured during the incidents, but there was minor damage to the vehicles and other property involved, Alford said. Alford said Whisler was bruised during a previous altercation, but was also not injured during the incidents that led to his arrest. Whisler was booked on charges of driving under the influence, hit and run, evasion and driving on a suspended license, Alford said. As of Wednesday evening Whisler remained in Placer County Jail with a $50,000 bail. ~Staff report
