Nielsen 2nd in triple jump at Arcadia

Bear River High’s Kendal Nielsen earned medals in two of the four events she competed in over the weekend at the prestigious Arcadia Invitational in Southern California. Nielsen placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 36 feet, 11 inches, and fourth in the long jump with a leap of 17-0. Nielsen also ran in the 100- and 200-meter sprints, where she posted respective times of 12.87 and 25.95 seconds. Several other Bruins earned personal-best marks at Saturday’s Thunder Invitational in Rocklin. Jordan Halleid finished the boys 1,600 in 5:22 and the 3,200 in 11:52. Liz Boyer turned in personal-best times on the girls’ side — 6:44 in the 1,600, 14:21 in the 3,200. DeVaughn Lofton finished the 200 with a time of 24.91, C.J. Olsen clocked in at 54.95 in the 400, and Shelby Jungers had a leap of 14-4 in the long jump for Bear River. The Bruins will host Colfax at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in a Pioneer Valley League meet at J. David Ramsey Stadium.
