No cause to treat veterans callously

I was shocked and saddened to read that one of our fellow citizens is asking people to turn their backs on the Veterans for Peace when they march in the Veterans Day parade here in Auburn on Nov. 11. My husband, my brother and four of my brothers-in-law are veterans of World War II and/or Vietnam. Any one of them would walk proudly with the Veterans for Peace. The key word here is “veteran.” This shameful suggestion harkens back to the callous treatment of many Americans towards our soldiers returning home from Vietnam. Let’s not repeat this dishonorable behavior. We should stand proud with all our veterans, past, present and future. Elinor Petuskey, Newcastle
