Welcome to the Auburn Journal’s “Noon Hour Update,” where we’ll present you with stories and updates on what’s going on in the news and what we’re working on for our Friday edition.

What we’re working on: An Auburn man has died after being stabbed on Wednesday afternoon near Placerville. Follow our current coverage here. Reporter Gus Thomson is doing more reporting on this story of what happened and who the victim was. Gus will also have his weekly installment of his, Media Life.

Where are things at with the Newcastle Fire District since the election? Reporter Andrew Westrope is working on answering that question. He’s looking into what the board is doing now and where the process is in regard to a new firehouse. Andrew is also following up on Wednesday night’s Auburn Union School District meeting.

Sports Editor Matthew Kimel is headed to Earl Crabbe gym for Thursday night’s matchup of Bear River High versus the Placer boys. Look for photos and video from the game.

What you’re talking about: Several of ours stories have online readers sharing their thoughts today. Some of our most commented pieces are on how a Placer High grad’s cover letter went viral; a teacher is charged with having sex with a student and Auburn’s smoking grade. Read these stories and more and share your thoughts.
