Welcome to the Auburn Journal’s “Noon Hour Update,” where we’ll present you with stories and updates on what’s going on in the news and what we’re working on for our Tuesday print edition.

What we’re working on: Reporter Gus Thomson and Photographer Michael Kirby are out in the Colfax area following up on reports of a mountain lion stalking a hiker over the weekend. Gus will also follow up with a state parks ranger’s close encounter with a quad rider that ended in a crash.

Speaking of parks, reporter Andrew Westrope is looking into how many seasonal park aides the Auburn State Recreation Area is hiring this year. With $55,000 in parking fees collected between July 2012 and January 2013, will our local parks see more uniformed help around this season?

Reporter Jon Schultz is working on a story about alcohol education classes coming up for business owners.

What you’re talking about: Our story about Auburn city council supporting efforts to keep the Kings in Sacramento has caught reader attention as has the letter to the editor “Stand up to tax loopholes.”
