Welcome to the Auburn Journal’s “Noon Hour Update,” where we’ll present you with stories and updates on what’s going on in the news and what we’re working on for our Friday edition.

What we’re working on:  The Placer County Water Agency board is voting on whether to approve a bonus for water agency employees that will equal 1.5 percent of annual base pay. Reporter Jon Schultz will have a story on which way the board votes and its impact. Jon is also reporting on a recent law enforcement sting that saw local businesses cited for selling alcohol to minors.

In Arts & Entertainment we have a story on singer/songwriter Cliff Eberhardt, who is coming to the State Theater Saturday in Downtown Auburn. Eberhardt will be offering a song-writing workshop followed by a performance in the evening.

Sports Editor Matthew Kimel is catching up with Placer High football star Eddie Vanderdoes from San Antonio, Texas, where he is preparing to play in Saturday’s U.S. Army All-American Bowl with some of the best high school football players in the country. Also, look for coverage of the Placer High School girls basketball game.

What you’re talking about: In our Letters to the Editor section, several letter writers’ opinions have online readers sharing their thoughts. Check out the letters “Arm against massacres,” “Use the storm to fly higher,” and Australia solved killing problem” and share your views.
