Welcome to the Auburn Journal’s “Noon Hour Update,” where we’ll present you with stories and updates on what’s going on in the news and what we’re working on for our Thursday edition.

What we’re working on:  The wet weather has arrived, and it’s expected to last for several days. Reporter Gus Thomson and Photographer Kim Palaferri are out in the rain Wednesday talking to residents and businesses about how they’re preparing for any weather-related incidents. Gus is also featuring the move of Placer County’s archives to a new location that will offer a better user experience.

A local book store in town is closing its doors. Reporter Jon Schultz talks to the business owner about the closure and takes an overall look at the current business climate in Auburn. Jon is also looking into the cause of a local house fire.

In sports the winter sports previews continue with a look into Placer High’s wrestling team and the Colfax High boys basketball team.

What you’re talking about: The Journal’s story on the increase in gun and ammo purchases since the re-election of President Obama has readers sharing their opinions, as does our story on Placer High’s fundraising efforts to raise $1 million for a stadium upgrade.
